Melissa was born with an inspiration straight from the sea. On the feet of French Riviera fishermen the designers found the embryo that gave origin to the Aranha model. In a short space of time this style caught on with Brazilians and became one of the most popular shoes around. In 1983 Melissa became one of the first labels to create collaborative collections, working with eccentric and avant-garde designer Jean-Paul Gaultier. Since then the Brazilian brand has worked with the likes of Vivienne Westwood, Karl Lagerfeld and architect Zaha Hadid – to name a few.
